Our Values

We endeavour to uplift and empower our team members and community by creating an inclusive, inspiring and safe environment for all.

COMMITMENT TO COUNTRY

We acknowledge the Bundjalung people as the Traditional Custodians of the Country where we work and live. We recognise the connection of First Nations Peoples to this land and waters and extend our gratitude for protecting this beautiful coastline and it's ecosystems for thousands of generations. We pay our respects to Bundalung Elders past, present and emerging.

ARTISAN PARTNERSHIPS

We proudly partner with a community of artisans in Bali, Indonesia, who hand-make our swim and resort wear in deep reverence for traditional craftsmanship.

Our garments are ethically produced to transcend seasons. By embracing a slow, thoughtful production model, we work collaboratively to ensure the highest quality execution and fit of each garment to honour our customer and her needs.

Our Impact

Every Sylk Swim garment purchased directly invests in a sustainable livelihood for the individuals within our manufacturing process. As we grow, we continue to find ways to enrich the lives of our team members and their families, foster long-term relationships and contribute to their way of life.

In the absence of mass production, our team can embrace more mindful and thoughtful processes. When you purchase from us, you can expect that each piece has a unique and fascinating story to tell from the hands of its maker.

Our Manufacturing partner holds a current certificate from the Department of Social Welfare and Labour in Bali for fulfilling the following criteria:

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • No underage employees
  • Above award wage salaries paid to their employees monthly, exceeding the government regulations
  • Paid sick leave, annual leave, pension and healthcare to all direct employees
  • Prayer and restrooms, communal break areas, well-lit and ventilated workspaces and western standard bathrooms

In addition to creating a healthy, respectful and safe workspace, our partner factory offers all the team members weekly exercise classes, prayer breaks, one-hour lunch breaks, paid overtime, annual bonuses and continued support during the Covid-19 crisis. Our founder, Shani, travels to Bali regularly to conduct factory visits and engage with our team. By remaining in tune with every stage of the production process, we can ensure each garment is ethically made to the highest possible standard.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Our manufactory partner is accredited by the Environmental Agency in Bali for their compliance to environmental standards and holds all licenses from the government required for operating in the industry.

In line with our environmental commitment, our stock is shipped from Bali to us using plastic-free materials. From our warehouse, every order is sent to our customers using 100% biodegradable mailer bags to lessen our impact on the environment. Launching this spring, all Sylk Swim pieces from our Essentials collection will be carefully packaged in our signature Sylk Swim bag, made from recycled materials and designed to be repurposed for your summer essentials and easy holiday packing.

ETHICAL SOURCING

Our fabrics are made to order from local, small-scale fabric mills in Indonesia. To reduce waste, any of our excess or off-cut fabric is repurposed into accessories or stored for future use.

As a young brand, we are continually learning and adapting our processes for the betterment of all. As we grow and evolve, we commit to caring for our environment and refining our business operations to protect and preserve our planet.
